Introduction
A Password Based Circuit Breaker using 8051 microcontroller and keypad is a secure and intelligent electrical protection system designed to prevent unauthorized access to power circuits. This project is widely used as a final year project for Electronics and Electrical Engineering students.
At Tech Optimum, we provide complete guidance, source code, circuit diagrams, and project training for embedded system projects based on 8051 microcontroller, ensuring both academic success and practical learning.
Project Overview
This project uses a 4×4 matrix keypad for password entry, a 16×2 LCD for displaying system messages, and LED indicators to show access status. The 8051 microcontroller verifies the entered password and controls a relay-based circuit breaker accordingly.
Only authorized users can switch ON or OFF the circuit breaker by entering the correct password, making this system suitable for industrial panels and restricted electrical areas.
Components Used
8051 Microcontroller (AT89C51 / AT89S52)
4×4 Matrix Keypad
16×2 LCD Display
Relay Module
Red & Green LEDs
Crystal Oscillator (11.0592 MHz)
Power Supply (5V DC)
Working of Password Based Circuit Breaker
When powered ON, the LCD displays “Enter Password”.
The user enters the password using the keypad.
The 8051 microcontroller reads and compares the input with the predefined password.
If the password is correct:
Green LED turns ON
Relay activates
Circuit breaker switches ON
LCD displays “Access Granted”
If the password is incorrect:
Red LED turns ON
Relay remains OFF
LCD displays “Access Denied”
This makes the system highly secure and user-friendly.
Applications of the Project
Industrial electrical control panels
Power distribution systems
Restricted access electrical rooms
Embedded security systems
Advantages
High security using keypad authentication
Prevents unauthorized power control
Simple and cost-effective design
Reliable embedded system using 8051
Ideal for mini and final year projects
Future Enhancements
Password change using EEPROM
GSM-based alert system
IoT-based smart circuit breaker
Biometric or RFID-based access control
Conclusion
The Password Based Circuit Breaker using 8051 and keypad is a reliable and secure embedded system project.
