Chandigarh: Diesel sold to wholesalers has gone up by Rs 25 per liter. The move comes after a 40 per cent jump in international crude oil price hike prices. However, there has been no change in the retail prices of diesel sold at petrol pumps.
Sales of petrol pumps have jumped by 20 per cent this month. Wholesale consumers like bus fleet operators and goods have bought fuel from petrol pumps. They usually buy fuel directly from the petroleum companies. As a result, the losses of fuel retail companies have increased.
The price has not increased in 136 days
Three sources familiar with the matter said that since there has been no record rise in fuel prices in the last 136 days, it would be a more viable option for companies to close petrol pumps instead of selling more oil at these rates. In 2008, Reliance Industries closed all its 1,432 petrol pumps after the sale hit zero. The situation is the same today, sources said. Wholesale consumers are buying from petrol pumps. As a result, the deficit of these retailers is increasing.
Diesel will be available at Rs 122.05 per liter

The price did not go up in view of the election

It is believed that fuel prices have not been hiked in view of the Assembly elections in five states. The results of the Assembly elections are due on March 10, but prices have not risen since then due to the second phase of the budget session of Parliament.
