Number porting has become easy, no need for plans offering SMS benefits
Telecom companies have made their prepaid plans much more expensive than before. Due to this, users are now having to spend more money for calling, data and SMS benefits. Meanwhile, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India i.e. TRAI has tried to give some relief to the users, which has now made it easier for the users to port the number. After the changes made by TRAI, now the subscribers of those prepaid plans will also be able to send SMS for porting the number, in which the companies do not offer free SMS benefit.
For porting, had to be recharged from plans with SMS benefits
Companies offer many such cheap plans to users, in which data and free calling are available, but free SMS benefit is not given in them. In such a situation, the subscriber of these plans had to recharge from the plan offering SMS benefit to port the number, so that they could send port out messages. TRAI has put an end to this arbitrariness of telecom companies and now SMS can be sent to port the number even in the plans that do not offer the number free SMS benefit.
Reliance Jio had complained to Trai
After the tariff hike, Vodafone-Idea (Vi) has reduced the price of the cheapest plan with SMS benefit to Rs 179. On the other hand, Jio’s SMS plan starts at Rs 155 and Airtel’s cheapest SMS plan costs Rs 128. In view of this, Jio had complained to TRAI. Jio said that Vodafone’s plans prevent subscribers of cheaper plans from porting them to other networks. After this complaint of Jio, now subscribers of plans that do not offer free SMS will also be able to send SMS to port the number to 1900.
How to port your number?
To change your network operator i.e. to port the number, you have to type your 10 digit mobile number by giving a space after typing ‘PORT’. Now after this you can choose the operator whose services you want to use. Visit the operator’s retail store and enter the valid port out code after filling the porting form. Submit all the required documents and if some payment is required, do that too. After this you will also have to complete the process of KYC.
