Chandigarh Weather Update: IMD Predicts Rain, Thunderstorms Till January 27

Chandigarh Weather News Today:
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for Chandigarh and surrounding regions, forecasting rainfall, thunderstorms, gusty winds, and a drop in temperature till January 27, 2026. The change in weather is attributed to an active Western Disturbance affecting northwest India.

Weather to Turn Unstable in Chandigarh

According to IMD officials, weather conditions will deteriorate from January 22 onwards, bringing:

  • Light to moderate rainfall

  • Thunderstorms with lightning

  • Strong winds reaching 50–60 km/h

  • Possibility of isolated hailstorms

Residents have been advised to remain alert as the sudden change may impact daily life and travel conditions.

Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds Expected

Meteorologists state that the Western Disturbance may trigger intense thunderstorm activity, especially during evening and night hours. Strong winds and lightning strikes could lead to temporary power disruptions and traffic issues across the city.

People are advised to avoid open areas during thunderstorms and stay indoors when lightning activity intensifies.

Temperature Likely to Drop After Rainfall

Following rainfall, Chandigarh is expected to experience:

  • A dip in minimum temperatures

  • Increased cold conditions

  • Dense fog during early mornings and late nights

The cold wave conditions may intensify after the rain spell, making mornings particularly chilly.

IMD Issues Safety Advisory

The IMD has urged citizens to take necessary precautions:

  • Avoid standing under trees or near electric poles during storms

  • Drive carefully during foggy conditions

  • Farmers should take measures to protect crops from rain and hail

  • Follow local advisories for weather updates

Weather Outlook Till January 27

As per the latest forecast, unsettled weather conditions may continue till January 27, after which skies are expected to clear gradually. However, cold conditions are likely to persist even after rainfall subsides.
