3) Work From Home With Retail Jobs
While retail jobs may conjure up images of warehouse stores and long hours on your feet, retail sales positions are some of the easiest jobs for stay-at-home moms and dads.
You can work at home or in any number of different locations with just a computer (and perhaps a phone) and a good Internet connection. With online shopping sites like Amazon, there is virtually no limit to what you can sell. Here are 10 ways you can make money selling things online.
4) Work From Home with Restaurant Jobs
If you’re an active job-seeker, chances are you’ve already spent time applying for restaurant jobs. But have you ever stopped to think about how restaurants work?
The local eatery where you grabbed lunch today has an entire team working behind-the-scenes, from chefs in the kitchen and hosts welcoming customers at the door, to waiters and waitresses serving food and bussers clearing tables—and all of them are looking for new people to hire!
So whether you’re searching for a summer internship or hoping for a part-time gig during your spring break, be sure to ask if they’re hiring. And if not now, just put their info on your radar. It never hurts to keep your options open!
5) Transcriptionist Jobs
Transcriptionists listen to audio or video recordings of meetings, lectures, interviews and more, transcribe them and convert them into text. Then they check for accuracy and add formatting as needed.
If you have great listening skills, can type quickly and take direction well (sometimes while working on a tight deadline), you may want to look into becoming a transcriptionist. Several companies hire online workers for transcription jobs in their home offices; however, it is important that you conduct an online search before agreeing to work with any company so that you are aware of all potential fees required to do business with them.
Transcription jobs tend not to pay very much on a per-hour basis; sometimes income will vary depending on how fast you can transcribe your work.
6) Virtual Assistant Jobs
Virtual assistants do a variety of different tasks for clients, including administrative and clerical work, like data entry and answering emails.
More advanced virtual assistants provide executive assistance and other services like web research, graphic design, copywriting, proofreading, event planning and scheduling and more.
To be successful as a virtual assistant in an online job you will need great time management skills because you’ll need to juggle many different projects at once. Since you’ll be working at home with little supervision you’ll also need strong self-motivation so that you can meet deadlines without getting overwhelmed or frustrated.
Knowing how to use social media can also be very helpful in building your business as well as staying on top of industry trends.
7) Proofreader and Copywriter Jobs
One of my favorite ways to make money online is by proofreading and copywriting. This has been a really fun and simple way for me to stay at home, take care of my kids, and make some extra cash on nights and weekends.
I have done work for several large companies in jobs ranging from writing copy for print media ads, blogs, direct mail, website content (including press releases), e-mail marketing campaigns, video scripts (closed captioning), media kits, manuals/white papers and press kits.
If you’re an entrepreneur starting out or even if you’ve got a brand new small business that needs lots of customer communication then I’d be happy to help!
8) Freelance Writer/Editor Job (Writing, Editing, PR, Marketing etc.)
There are more than a million freelance writers, editors, and content producers in America. Why? Because you can work from home whenever you want, make great money ($25-$75 per hour), and have fun doing it.
See my post on How to Become a Freelance Writer/Editor for tips and strategies on how to break into these coveted jobs that let you make money at home. For even more ideas about how to start a business online, check out 8 Business Ideas You Can Start From Your Couch.
9) Mystery Shopper Job
A mystery shopper is someone who gets paid for covertly evaluating a business or service, such as a restaurant or auto repair shop. You won’t have any trouble getting mystery shopper jobs if you have reliable transportation and can keep detailed notes about your experiences.
And remember that staying on good terms with management and staff will increase your chances of landing future assignments. Mystery shoppers are independent contractors, not employees of companies that hire them, which means they earn more than minimum wage but less than workers in other occupations requiring similar skills, such as real estate agents.
The median annual wage for all sales jobs in May 2017 was $35,070, according to federal data.
10) Tutor/Teacher Job (English, Math, Science etc.)
One of my favorite sources of part-time income is by tutoring high school and college students. I used to tutor in high school, but it’s something I’ve only done casually.
However, once I began teaching online I found myself reaching out to former students and offering my services as a tutor. Although many declined due to being too busy with work or other obligations, there were several who needed help after they struggled with basic concepts or with studying for exams.
In just an hour here and there, you can certainly make some money tutoring others or teaching online courses like Udemy! It’s definitely worth considering as a side business idea that can generate some extra income while helping others succeed.
